MARC U*STAR Program

This is an Honors Research Scholarship program for American Citizens or US residents who maintain a 3.0 grade point average. Students are encouraged to apply during their sophomore years for admittance during the summer preceeding their junior year. MARC scholars receive a competitive scholarship, an annual stipend, and travel funds to one annual research conference. Requirements for successful completion of the program include the completion of additional major-related course, attendance at the interdepartmental seminar series. MBRS RISE Program

Undergraduate students who participate in this program must maintain a 3.0 grade point average while spending up to 20 hours per week conducting research in an assigned on-campus laboratory. Students are paid hourly as contractual employees of Morgan State University, and may obtain full-time (40 hours per week) contracts during the summer months. Participants are also allowed to funds for travel to one annual conference, where they are expected to present the results of their research. Participants in this program will spend 20 hours/week conducting research in an on-campus faculty laboratory during the academic year and 40 hours/week during the summer. Additionally, participants have the opportunity to present their research at local undergraduate research symposium. In addition to completing a Graduate Records Examination study course, students are expected to attend the weekly interdepartmental seminar series. Summer Research Internship Programs

Undergraduates who seek research experience outside of the University are encouraged to apply to various summer research intership programs. These programs are offered locally at Johns Hopkins University, University of Maryland, and the National Institutes of Health. Universitites across the country also offer research experiences for undergraduate students. Most programs are looking for students with a minimum GPA of 2.8 in the summers following their sophomore or junior years and usually require US citizenship or permanent residency. Occasionally, universities may be awarded private funds that will allow them to accept foreign nationals. The Fogarty MIRT Program

The Fogarty/MIRT program is housed at the University of Maryland at Baltimore and offers competitive funding opportunities for students to spend the summer in a laboratory in foreign countries. More information about this program is available at the MIRT website.
